What to know about Aksu

Aksu sits immediately east of central Antalya, and the airport lies within its boundaries. Its main draw is Perge, one of the largest ancient cities of Pamphylia.

At Perge the colonnaded street, a stadium for 12,000, Roman baths and the Hellenistic gate all still stand; most of the statues excavated here form the finest part of the Antalya Museum. The site is wide and shadeless, so a morning visit is strongly advised.

In the north of the district, Kurşunlu Waterfall is a small nature park of pine forest and walking trails half an hour from the city — the natural third stop on Perge and Aspendos tours.

When to go

Shadeless sites like Perge are far more comfortable between October and April; in summer, go between 09:00 and 10:30. Kurşunlu is at its fullest in spring and lowest at the end of summer.

Getting there

Antalya Airport is inside the district, 13 km from the city centre. Perge is 8 km from the airport and reachable from central Antalya by tram plus a short taxi ride. Public transport to Kurşunlu is limited; most visitors arrive by tour or car.

What to see in Aksu

  • Ancient city of Perge

A colonnaded street, agora, Roman baths and a stadium for 12,000 make this one of the widest ruin fields in Pamphylia. Allow 1.5-2 hours.

  • Kurşunlu Waterfall Nature Park

A waterfall and pool in pine forest with about a kilometre of walking trails, 24 km from the city centre. Flow is strongest in spring.

  • The stadium of Perge

North of the city, 234 metres long, with the rows of shops beneath the stands still legible — among the best preserved in the Roman world.
