What to know about Gündoğmuş

Gündoğmuş lies in the mountain belt directly behind Alanya. At over 1,000 metres it is a natural cooling-off point for summer visitors coming up from the shore.

The local economy runs on walnuts, apples and livestock. Highland meadows, narrow valleys and village roads through pine forest give the district its character; tourist infrastructure is limited and most people stay on the Alanya side.

There are canyon formations and stream beds in places, used by locals as picnic and cooling spots. Quiet and low visitor numbers are its defining quality.

When to go

May to October works, and July-August is ideal for escaping the coast. Snow falls in winter and village roads can close. Walnut and apple harvest is in September and October.

Getting there

Sixty-five kilometres from Alanya, about 1.5 hours on a winding mountain road. Central Antalya is 190 km away. Public transport is sparse, so driving is recommended.

What to see in Gündoğmuş

  • Taurus highlands

Plateau meadows among pine forest, ten degrees cooler than the coast in summer, good for picnics and short walks.

  • Walnut and apple groves

The district's livelihood. Harvest runs September-October, when roadside stalls sell local produce.

  • Streams and canyons

Cool stream beds and canyon formations in the narrow valleys — local picnic spots. The roads are narrow, so drive carefully.
