What to know about Serik

Serik hosts two very different visitors at once: culture travellers who come to test the acoustics of Aspendos in the morning, and holidaymakers staying at the golf resorts among the pine woods of Belek.

Aspendos is famous for its 2nd-century theatre seating 15,000. Because the stage building survives almost intact, the acoustics still work; the aqueduct arches nearby are the other structure worth walking to.

Belek, by contrast, was planned from scratch as a resort area after the 1980s. More than fifteen golf courses lie in the red-pine forest behind the beach, which is also a loggerhead turtle nesting site — so night-time lighting on the sand is deliberately limited.

When to go

For golf, March-May and October-November are ideal; in midsummer, tee times move to early morning. Aspendos is best on a spring or autumn afternoon. The sea is warm from May to October.

Getting there

Antalya Airport (AYT) is 35 km west, a 30-40 minute transfer. Belek is 12 km from the town centre and Aspendos 6 km north of it. The Antalya-Alanya highway runs through the district, so buses are easy.

What to see in Serik

  • Aspendos Theatre

Built around AD 155 for 15,000 spectators, with its stage building fully standing. It hosts an opera and ballet festival in summer.

  • Belek golf courses

Over fifteen 18-hole courses set in pine forest. The season peaks in spring and autumn, and most hotels shuttle guests straight to the tee.

  • Aspendos aqueduct

Part of the arched aqueduct that fed the ancient city still stands out on the plain. It is a short walk north of the theatre and usually empty of crowds.

  • Belek beach and turtle nests

A long, shallow-shelving beach that becomes a nesting ground in July and August. Nests are marked, and light and noise are restricted at night.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a visit to Aspendos take?+

An hour to ninety minutes covers the theatre. Add the aqueduct and the upper terrace of the ancient city and it becomes 2.5 hours. Most tours combine Aspendos, Kurşunlu Waterfall and Perge in one day.

When can you play golf in Belek?+

Courses are open all year, but the busy season runs March-May and October-November. In summer, play shifts to early morning and late afternoon.

Can you see a performance at Aspendos?+

Yes. The International Opera and Ballet Festival stages evening performances in the ancient theatre during summer; tickets are sold separately.
