About this tour
Alanya was the winter capital of the Seljuk sultanate, and the fortifications from that period still ring the peninsula. The walk starts at the Red Tower, an octagonal keep from 1226, five floors of brick over a cistern, then follows the sea wall to the Tersane, the only surviving Seljuk shipyard. From there the route climbs to the inner fortress for the view that puts the whole town in context: harbour on one side, Cleopatra Beach on the other, mountains behind.
