About this tour
Pamukkale means "cotton castle", and from the valley the terraces really do look like something spilled down the hillside. Calcium-rich water has been depositing white travertine here for millennia; you walk the terraces barefoot, ankle-deep in warm water. Above them stands Hierapolis, a Roman spa city with one of the best-preserved theatres in Anatolia. It is a long day, around fourteen hours door to door, but it is the one excursion from Alanya that people regret skipping.
